Taylor Swift Accepts Icon Award at Teen Choice Awards, Becomes 'Drunk Taylor'

Plus all the winners from the 2019 Teen Choice Awards

August 12, 2019

“I want to just shout out whoever it was at the Teen Choice Awards who decided to put the itty bitty pretty kitty committee on this surf board,” smiled Taylor Swift, accepting the first ever Icon Award this weekend at the award show. “These are my furry children.”

Swift walked away with the very special and unique trophy this weekend at the Teen Choice Awards, thanking the fans with surfboard in hand. After a tribute to the US Women’s Soccer Team and Alex Morgan, who presented her with the award, Taylor continued with gushing praise for the people who helped her to her best life.

“I just want to talk to the fans for a second,” she continued. “You make me so happy. You make me laugh every day online, I love meeting you, I love loving you. You are just the most amazing, generous people. Thank you for giving me the life that I have. Every single minute of every day I know that you are the reason that I have the life I have and I that I get to do what I love doing.”

Earlier in the weekend, Swift was celebrating in a very different way. The singer rounded up the stars of her “You Need To Calm Down” video, including Laverne Cox, Hayley Kiyoko, and Chester Lockhart, to toast to her 10 nominations at the upcoming MTV VMAs. Clips flooded our timeline of Swift dancing and singing to her own song at the party, as others laughed and looked on.

“Threw a party to celebrate with the people who made the ME! & YNTCD videos with me - and we had so much fun that ‘Drunk Taylor’ is trending on Twitter. CHEERS” she wrote.

This weekend Swift also announced that she will reveal the title track from her upcoming album, Lover, on Friday.

Elsewhere at the Teen Choice Awards, Shawn Mendes and BTS went home big winners, and the Jonas Brothers picked up their own achievement, taking home the Decade Award. “We couldn’t do any of this without you,” they wrote to the fans after.
