Coopertown Celebrates 40 Years in Memphis with Mary Poppins.

September 25th 2017, Coopertown Chimney and Wildlife Services has been cleaning chimneys and humanely removing wildlife in the mid-south since 1977. To celebrate this milestone Coopertown is sponsoring a big screen showing and sing-a-long of the Disney classic Mary Poppins at the Levitt Shell on Saturday September 30th at 7pm. http://www.levittshell.org/events/marypoppins

Coopertown started as a bunch of young guys who after seeing an Ad in Mother Earth News decided there was an untapped need to clean the chimney and fireplaces in the region. This was during the so-called energy crisis of the mid-seventies when homeowners started looking for alternative and less expensive ways of heating their homes. Fireplaces were converted to fireplace inserts and new energy efficient woodstove designs were flooding the market. However, homeowners didn’t realize their chimney flues weren’t designed for the massive increase of use and creosote buildup would clog the flue reducing efficiency and creating a fire hazard. This little band of Coopertown chimney sweeps soon gained the respect and support of the Memphis Fire Department. Coopertown also ran into the problem of raccoons, squirrels and birds nesting in chimneys and attics and needing safe and humane removal before the chimney could be cleaned. Needless to say, the business took off with both humane animal removal and chimney cleaning.

Today, the science and craftsmanship has advanced to a h-tech level with heat signature scanning, structural video, national certification of chimney sweeps and animal removal training and proper TWRA permits. Coopertown co-founder and president Ken Robinson along with son and operations manager Kenny are the only father and son Master Chimney Sweeps in the U.S. There are only 33 Master Chimney Sweeps in the US and that process takes years to complete. http://www.csia.org

Coopertown has a lot to crow about after 40 years and 114K chimneys cleaned. What better way than to sponsor a FREE big screen showing and sing-a-long of Mary Poppins at the Levitt Shell AT 7PM on Saturday September 30th. Coopertown will have costumed Raccoon, squirrel and roof rat, a Mary and Bert costume contest with $100 first prize for each, free top hats and chimney sweep necklaces for the kids, a Mary Poppins photo booth, and several more surprises before and during the movie. CHIM CHIM CHEROO!
